Hey!! My name is Sarah, I grew up in Bournemouth and moved to Bristol in 2021 for uni. I have been playing guitar for almost 10 years and I am the guitarist for Disaster Clinic, and formerly Family Portrait. After coming off stage from a FP gig, Ellie and I were approached by a man, who told us 'I was worried when two girls walked on the stage, but you were actually alright!' If you ask any female instrumentalist, they likely will have a similar experience. There is a distinct lack of female representation and support for musicians like us growing up. I was the only girl in many guitar classes at uni, which meant I felt very uncomfortable being truly creative and learning as I had no female presence to connect with. I struggled with my identity and connection to the music industry, but I know I want to be in it! And therefore I have decided to use my passion to collaborate with and campaign for those like me.
